An Office Add-in is a web application hosted in a browser control or iframe runningin the context of an Microsoft Office application. It helps users complete their tasks quickly and efficiently. There are a lots of popular add-ins that people familiar with, like Wikipedia, Bing maps, Pickit and Numbers. I helped providing functional UX design and adding design for deep value for these office add-ins.
We started with evaluating with different Add-in. To analyze if that is a good or bad one. To compare these add-in with the good one and then rate them. I creates a lots of best practice illustration for Add-in quality. (What’s a bad logo, how to encourage people to write feedback and rating on the office add-in store)
Then we started to create guideline for Office Add-in UX pattern. The customers are Office add-in developer and third party designer. We brought the components from Office pattern gallery and create the original guideline. The design is not only about the interface, it has close connection with people’s behavior. (where should they put the button, how big is the button, how big is the company icon) So the third party designer will follow Microsoft add-in guideline and create their unique interface for their company. And we posted on the Microsoft Office Github website so they can take a reference.
